iThought: Moving to Google Sheets as Medium for Spreadsheets
Being bombarded with the enormous features of Microsoft Excel offers you? Have you ever wanted to use a spreadsheet in a simplified structure or format? The one that is easier to use?
Google Sheets is an online spreadsheet app that will let you experience a simplified version of any other applications for spreadsheets. However, Google Developers keep on innovating their ways so they have included additional features or add-ons that you can use to step up your game in utilizing sheets.
As with my encounter with Google Sheets so far and upon reading the Beginners' Guide powered by zapier.com, I have examined and evaluated what this online app could offer and surprisingly, it really not let my expectations down.
Accordingly, here are other things about Google Sheets that will give a glimpse of what is it to be using it:
1. Free: No Need for Paid Subscriptions
Google Sheets will let you get rid of those high paying subscriptions for you to use spreadsheets—it is free and still offers the same features needed for such application. This can be accessed using your web browser or in your mobile phones online but it is also available and downloaded for offline use.
Another good thing to know about Google Sheets is that it is in a simplified layout but also consists of other features essential for the improvement of your experience in using it. Upon using Google Sheets, the formulas plus additional formulas not included in an Excel are accurately indicated and on how to use it and provides ease for typing. It also comes with an Auto-save feature which I think most of us, been eyeing to avoid recreating final outputs. The real-time changes of the data in the sheets are directed and saved to the cloud drive (GDrive). Moreover, Google Sheets has additional features or add-ons that you can avail like forms, data gathering, spreadsheets formatting, text, number crunching, sharing & publishing , email & communication, and a lot more (Guay, 2016).
3. Flexible & Ready for Collaboration
Google Sheets can be extended in different file formats, may it be in spreadsheets (excel or .xls) or other applications like docs. In addition, it is opened for collaborative works. Especially in a business, the file/data can be shared to anyone you want, to your employer for instance in reporting daily or periodic transactions posted in the sheets (Thelin, 2018).
Indeed, Google Sheets can be a great alternative for other spreadsheets users particularly for beginners and the ones who prefer better a user-friendly interface.
